The French Superstar Patricia Kaas continued her long legacy of superior singing with her goosebumps inducingly good performance in Moscow. The song was already a prime example of a chanson ballad, but the staging and the power of her voice elevated the entry to a new instant favorite the night of the Grand Final.

While there was no catching up to the winner in the voting, Patricia's 8th place was a good placing for France. For years the country did very poor and often or not the country was at the very end of the score board. The top ten placing was a big deal for the Western country. With a Top 5 placing for the UK that year, it seemed, at last, the Big Four countries were doing well at Eurovision again.
