2014: The Winner

The was most divisive winner in the whole time I've been watching the show. The winner's looks and message got worldwide coverage including in the USA. Why all the fuss? Oh, cause the Eurovision Song Contest was won by a bearded lady! Conchita Wurst almost won in the Austrian national selection the year before and she had returned in 2014 with an even better song.
At first, I had to spend a good portion of time explaining why the drag act singer's appearance shouldn't matter but luckily, the power of her song was good enough to convince even the most confused viewer. Though many at the Eurovision party I was at was were rooting for Sweden, they were impressed with this song that could easily pass for a James Bond theme. Conchita scored a big win for the drag community and their acceptance in European society.
