2006: The Weird

Not since 2003 had a contestant caused such a stir during the lead up to the concert in Athens. Her entire song was a parody of the contest and the explicit lyrics in the original song needed to be changed before the contest. But Silvía refused to change them. Later on, while rehearsing she apparently insulted the host country which caused her a lot of consternation from the local Eurovision audience. What would happen on stage would be the most Eurovision thing I'd see yet.
You might hear the phrase "So Eurovision" from Europeans and this performance has it all. The electricity from an angry crowd, a defiant singer, mad costumes and dancing and flashing lights. This was the first giant storm of controversy I'd really seen as a Eurovision fan. The artist was convinced she'd do fantastic but perhaps making light of the contest you're trying to win isn't the best idea.
