2015: The Honorable

To celebrate 60 years of Eurovision, and to finally cool the jets of the Australian broadcaster, for the first time Australia would be competing in the contest. As a guest performer, they wouldn't even need to quality for the final! Not everyone was happy about this, thinking the contest should just stick with Europe. And what if the country won? Well, Australia would have to pick a European country to host with, but could the debut country win?!
Australia was told that if they won, they could participate again but only if they won, so the stakes were high for the country. They sent a hugely popular singer from their nation, a man often dubbed the Australian Bruno Mars. His song certainly had that modern motown sound and he brought a professional sheen to Eurovision. Their performance was sleek and energetic but couldn't beat the two favorites of the night. In the end, the country did well earning fifth place. This ended up being good enough for the EBU, they would allow Australia to compete again the next year.
Final Score: 196 pts (5th place out of 27)
