2007: The Guilty

This is a strange story. See, Dmitry's mother was a huge fan of Princess Diana and was the president of the Belarusian Princess Di fan club, cause, apparently, there was such a thing! When she found herself pregnant she prayed for a child who looked like the popular British figure. Amazingly enough, when Dmitry's face appeared on the Eurovision stage the UK commentator was startled by his resemblance to one, yep, Princess Diana. It's creepy, it's weird, and it's so very Eurovision.
When it comes to the song, it's a typical slavic pop song with a great hook and funny lyrics. In fact, this song was the first to get away with using a sample in a Eurovision song. The strings come from a commercial loop known as "cinematic 11 orchestra 2." Somehow this didn't break the rules and it was allowed to compete. Dmitry has had one of Belarus's best results in the contest. He's a great performer and it all shows in his stage show, though admittedly, the performance does have some unintended humor. His pronunciation of "willing" is just too funny. He "is wheeling, yes, [he's] wheeling."
