The Good, The Bad and The Hilarious
2008: The Winner
There's actually some American interest with the winner in Belgrade. Co-written with Dima Bilan, this song was also written by a guy named Jim Beanz, from my home state of Pennsylvania!
2008: The Honorable
Written by famous winner of the 1998 contest, this song, originally titled "Ke'ilu Kan (or "As if here"), was an impressive entry.
2008 - The Weird
This is another one of those so weird it's good entries. Bosnia and Herzegovina sent acclaimed Bosnian alt-rock singer Laka.
2008: The Guilty
With a gentle guitar playing over sincerely emotionally vocals, this song was an instant retribution to the hilarity of their 2004 entry.
2008: The Worst
Oh boy, it seemed like Ireland had given up. They were sending a Turkey puppet.
2008: The Best
This synthpop song received enough criticism to be brought up in the French Parliament with calls for it's withdrawal from the contest. Why?
2007: An Overview
With Lordi's hard rock win the year before, the 2007 contest was the year of rock, pyrotechnics and humor!
2007: The Honorable
If you would've told me in 2007 that Serebro would become one of my favorite bands today, I would've laughed at you.
2007: The Hilarious
Wow, Switzerland, wow. You really outdid yourselves with this novelty act.
2007: The Weird
Where do I start with this? The controversy around Verka was huge. A drag act representing the largely homophobic Slavic culture caused an uproar from it’s native country.
2007: The Guilty
This is a strange story. See, Dmitry's mother was a huge fan of Princess Diana and was the president of the Belarusian Princess Di fan club, cause, apparently, there was such a thing!
2007: The Worst
I was living as a student in Poland at the time, so when this was announced as the entry for my host country I was quite disappointed.
